Call for applications for ICHO fellowships

Call for Applications: Research or Conference Travel Grant in the field of the History of Oceanography

The International Commission for the History of Oceanography (ICHO) is offering funding for research or conference travel related to the history of ocean sciences or ocean histories. The grant can be used to visit an archive, museum, or library relevant to your research, carry out fieldwork, or present a paper at a scientific workshop or conference. With approval, funds can also be used for non-travel research expenses (such as scans of archival documents, image permissions, etc.). The travel or use of funds must take place before 15 November 2024 (and any time after Jan 1, 2024). We are offering research and travel grants with a maximum of 300 USD each. Applications are welcome from grad students, early career researchers, and independent scholars. In addition to providing appropriate receipts, ICHO requests that grant winners contribute a blog entry to the Commission blog, either a report on the archive or conference or something about your research. Website/blog: https://oceansciencehistory.com/

To apply, please send a short CV (max. three pages) and a project description of your planned research project or conference presentation (max. 500 words). Also provide a brief budget, indicating what you intend to use the money for, including which archive or conference you are planning to visit. Please send the application materials in one PDF file to ICHO Research Travel Grant Committee at commissionhistoryoceanography@gmail.com.

Applications will be considered on October 15, 2024, and if there are funds remaining a rolling basis after that until funds are expended.

The successful candidates will need to provide receipts of their research or travel expenses for reimbursement by 15 November 2024.

The funds must be expended before 15 November and receipts from earlier in the year, can also be submitted in an application for consideration.
